In 1925 at the rear of Sheridans Ennisnag Stores, workmen digging out sand came upon the bodies of two people.

The late Doctor T G O’ Brien of Rockview Ennisnag examined them and declared them to be the remains of a male and female The age of which suggested to him that these were the bodies of victims of the Famine of 1847.

The bodies were placed in a wooden box which was subsequently held in a storeroom at Ennisnag Stores where they remained from 1925 until 1943. The police investigation concurred with the findings of Dr O ‘Brien and gave permission for to proceed with the burial of these two people. Felix Sheridan Sen., was Manager of Potters Store and John (Jack) Dunne Sen. of Ennisnag took care of the internment.
Ennisnag Stores was the location of a soup kitchen in the Famine of 1847.
