Rev. Gilbert Laird was a Church of Ireland Rector at Brinny from 1810 until 1858. He married Miss Charlotte Watley in 1815. When Rev. Gilbert’s wife died he married his house-keeper, a lady 50 years his junior, by the name of Mary Murphy. However he died shortly afterwards and was buried in the Murphy family grave here in Kilbrogan.

Brinny (441 acres).  Boirne – Stones or rocky land.  Brinny Church was built in 1737.  It was enlarged in 1813 and remodelled in 1883.  The old parish church was probably where the present protestant church stands.  At the south side are ruins of Brinny Corn mills.  Here lived Sean Dearg Nash who was several times between 1690 and his death in 1725 provost of Bandon.

Sean Dearg Nash (John Nash) is buried in Christ Church, Bandon.

John Desmond.
