This ledger or recumbent slab is situated in the far left corner of this railed enclosure, adjacent to the wall. This area, located in the ruins of the old church in Kilbegley, was enclosed in the period between 1874-1878. All of the names recorded in this enclosure are related to Duffy's of Kidlawn but we do not know if this Kelly family are connected to the Duffy family.

It is probable that the addess for this Kelly grave is Woodmount (Tonelig) in the parish of Creagh but without the insight of a Kelly genealogist we can only speculate. Suffice it to say, Rev Patrick K. Egan in his book The Parish of Ballinasloe published in 1960, makes some references to various Laughen Kelly's. Egan refers to a note in the important medieval manuscript - The Book of Hy Many - which states 'This book Belongs to Mr. Laughlen Kelly of Tonelig. Left him by his Father Mr. Edmond Kelly Deceased. 1754'. Rev. Egan also mentions that Woodmount House ( Tonelig) was built by a Laughlen Kelly. 'Inscribed on the wall-plate above the front door is the legend, 'L. K 1783'. The Kelly family were still in Woodmount House in Griffiths Valuation but later resided in Austrailia.
