The "Ecclesiastical Antiquities of Youghal" by Rev Samuel Hayman in 1854 gives a very detailed description of the structure and inscriptions on this mausoleum.

The nine children named on this mausoleum were those born before the erection of this monument in 1619-his second wife Katherine Fenton, had in total 7 sons and 8 daughters by Lord Boyle.
