The Galway Weekly Advertiser. April 5th. (1828). (Obituary). "... At Meyrick Square... Captain Richard Kelly, half pay late of His Majesty's 28th regiment of foot... He entered the service at a very early age, at the time of the memorable expedition to Egypt, and was a sharer with the 28th in many a bloody engagement, as well at that period where that corps most particularly distinguished itself, as in many others, from that time to the ever memorable action^ of Quarte Brass and Waterloo, in which latter Captain Kelly commanded the 8th [sic. for 28th] for a greater part of the engagement as his superior officers were severely wounded early in the day. He was obliged a year since to retire upon half-pay, by reason of weakness of a hitherto vigorous constitution, broken down from lengthened, continued, and active service. This much- lamented officer's remains were interred on Wednesday in the Churchyard of St. Nicholas with military honours." The Connaught Journal. March 31st. (1828). More or less the same obituary given, almost word for word. In this reference however the correct regiment number is given (see * in note in the above reference).
