Here Lyeth the Body of Mary (l)Hayes alias Montgomery wife of James (l)Hayes of Gal way Burge/s & Ten of Her Children she Died 18th Iuly 1764 aged 47 years
A R.S. with a single-line border. The Inc'd. Ins. is very worn. Above, are a set of impaled arms in one shield. On the left are three fleurs-de-lis (the Montgomery arms). The right half bears three lions rampant and the shield is surrounded by foliate mantling. Burke's (1976) gives the arms of Lyons Montgomery, Montgomery of Co. Down and Montgomery of Fermanagh and Tyrone. No arms is cited for the Montgomerys of Antrim, though the Lyons-Montgomery, Co. Down and Fermanagh-Tyrone Montgomery arms contain some elements of the arms cited above. See Burke's (1976), 851-8 for detailed pedigrees of all the above branches of the family. The stone itself is flaking and chipped. The husband's name seems to be Hayes. See also Nos. 135 and 136 for other Montgomery stones and coats of arms.
