Margaret Dunning Mensa of altar-tomb or ledger slab c.1625 Mensa of altar-tomb or ledger slab. Rectangular slab with richly-foliated cross with fleur-de-lis terminals on a shaft that rises from a stepped base. The shaft is flanked by streamers. A marginal Latin inscription is now largely illegible but was originally recorded by Carrigan (1905 iii, 93) as: [Roman lettering] AVGVSTVS 1625, [black-letter] ET MARGARETA DUNGIN UXOR EIUS Q. OBIIT [ ] DIE MENSIS [ ] Translation: August 1625, and his wife Margaret Dungin who died [ ] day the month of [ ] According to Carrigan (1905 iii, 93) the slab was in the chancel when recorded by him.
