Richard Waton and Margaret Rothe altar-tomb side-panel c.1634 Side-panel of altar-tomb no.357. Rectangular tablet with Waton impaling Rothe coat of arms. Slight traces of paint evident including green on tree on the Rothe arms. Over shield is date 1643 and beneath the initials R.W. and M.R. with motto 'A CRVCE NOSTRA SALVS'. Below the cartouche an inscription is incised in Latin running hand, transcribed by Carrigan (1905 iii, 96) thus: Connubio stabili vitam transegimus vnam Continet vt praesens symbola nostra lapis. Viximus unanimes, nee mors separauit amantes. Vnus nostra lapis corpora bina tegit.
