Tablet unadorned with in
scriptive Pomp is deposited
the mortal Pail of JOHN
DOWNIN
His integrity and domestick
values will be recorded in
yonder Hamlet when  time will
render this frail Memorial false
to its charge. Snatched by
an almost instantaneous Stroke
From his weeping family to Ye.
cold embraces of merciless death
Prepared at all hours by the con
scious Righteousness of his Life.
He met the Awful Summons
unappalled. Reader depart. Let this
circumstance smit deep into thy
mind be wise to day & boast
Not of tomorrow.
Died July 20th 1789 Aged 62 yrs.
Perpetual Blessing may his
soul enjoy.
