CENSUS RECORD OF PAD QUINN & FAMILY

PATRICK QUINN - Another Soldier of the Republic.

Another soldier of the Republic was laid to rest on Saturday, December the 15th, 1928, when Patrick Quinn, late of "C" Company, 1st Batt., Cork No. 4 Brigade (Drishane, Millstreet, Co. Cork) was interred in his family burial place at Templetrine.

Pat joined the above-named Company in 1918 and served with the same company up to his arrest by Free State troops in January, 1923.
He took part in most of the operations in this area in both the Black and Tan and Civil wars.
The opinion held of Pat by both his officers and comrades was that no cooler, braver or better soldier could be found in the Army of the Republic.
It may seem a big thing to say this, but it is the honest opinion of all who were associated with him in both wars.
Pat was tried and sentenced to death after his capture in 1923. He was held in Cork, Mountjoy. Tintown and Harepark prisons by the Free State authorities for 17 months until his release in June, 1924.
He endured sixteen days hunger strike, and this, no doubt, undermined his robust health.
He was ill almost since his release.
The end came on December 12th.

The news of his death evoked the greatest sympathy of all who knew him,
particularly in the Millstreet district, where his services to the cause were best known.

A party of his old comrades travelled the 50 miles from Millstreet to Kilbrittain to attend his funeral and lay a wreath on his grave.
Mr. C. T. Meany, M.C.C., as former O.C. of deceased's column, delivered a short address.
"Far dearer the grave or the prison,
Illumined by one patriot's name,
Than the trophies of all who have risen
On Liberty's ruins to fame."
