IN LOVING MEMORY OF JOHN REED WHO DIED 7th JANUARY 1864, AGED 56 YEARS. AND OF HIS SON MATTHEW REED, M. D. SURGEON ROYAL NAVY WHO DIED ON ACTIVE SERVICE ON THE WEST COAST OF AFRICA ON THE 15th JANUARY 1877, AGED 29 YEARS, HIS BODY RESTS IN FREETOWN CEMETERY, SIERRA LEONE "SO SHALL WE EVER BE WITH THE LORD."

"... at his residence, Henry Street West, Mr. John Reid. Deceased has been for many years clerk of the Church of St. Nicholas, and being a faithful follower of Christ, laid down his life in the service of Him whom he had so long and consistently loved". (He died of a burst blood vessel).
