Beneath the inscription is a crest enclosed within a garter. The garter is inscribed with the following inscription "SEMPAR PA--TUS". The broken segment of the word may read "RA" giving the full motto as "PARATUS" (Prepared) Fairbairne's gives this as the motto of Fraser, Sword and Swourd familes. The crest itself consists of a bird standing above a peaked crown. The monument is inscribed with the words "Kirk Fecit”.
