A large R.S. (originally a H.S) with a shouldered and bow-headed top. Unusually the lower comers of the slab are also bevelled. The stone has some rough pocking on the lower right hand comer. Inc'd. Ins. with the name in Italics. The second "a" of Captain (line 7) has been recut. The stone may have been reused. This is also suggested by the repair work referred to in the last three lines of the inscription. The stone was uncovered in 1990. See also No. 62 for another Thomas.
