Died May MDCCCXLVI [2nd side] Lewis/ the only son of his mother and she was a widow "The Lord Killeth" Samuel 11 '6. [3rd side] Erected by/ a sorrowing mother/ To the memory of/ the Best and most attached of sons/ prematurely cut of in the morning of Life/ thrown with his horse and killed in/ the 27th year of his age/ "Alas so young" [4th side] The sorrowing mother after 12 years of weary waiting now peacefully rests beside the Beloved son. But she refused to be comforted and she said "For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning" March 1857 Genesis 37.

Large obelisk set on a three step base formed by two large steps with a recess between. There are four inscribed panels, one on each side, which are made of large rectangular slabs with separate pediment tops. Two (the northern and southern ones) of these rectangular panels have fallen off.
