In memory of MARY/ the beloved wife of BARTON STEPHENS/ of this City died Oct 15th 1873 aged 67 years/ their children JOHN EDWARD died April 3rd 1847/ and Barton died May 7th 1850./ ALSO INTERRED HERE/ MRS. SARAH ROWLEY, who died May 18th 1851 aged 78 years/ and MISS SARAH ROWLEY, who died Feb 7th 1865/ also MISS ELIZA STEPHENS who died/ January 15th 1879 aged 78 years/ also the first named/ BARTON STEPHENS/ who died December 21st 1889/ aged 82 years.

Mural monument of neo-classical type in three tiers. It comprises a large plain rectangular plinth below the main body of the memorial, a rectangular inscribed panel flanked on either side by moulded pilasters. Each pilaster is fluted and contains a pair of maltese crosses in false-relief. At the base of the pilasters are ceramic tiles. The pediment is heavily overgrown as is the north side of the monument.
