Notes: 

The recumbent square-top slab of Rev Powell faces west in accordance with the tradition of priests facing their flock at the final summons to judgement. 

The limestone grave slab measures 6ft9ins(H) x 3ft4½ins(W) x 10ins(D), there is a christogram with cross at the top of the memorial and all west facing text is incised roman style.

An article by Rev M Coen in the Connacht Tribune of the 7 March 1980, page 49 states:-

Peter Powell PP
Moycullen

In 1776 he was secretary to
warden Joyce.  He was a vicar of the
wardenship and lived in Drimcong.
He had been a student in
Salamanca, he was ordained in
1765 and sailed home from Bilbao
in 1766.  He was buried in
Moycullen old cemetery.
