Notes:

The limestone slab measures 6ft5in x 3ft2in x 4in and has a fracture mark/crack in the stone near the south west corner.  It is square topped with roman style incised script.  All script on the stone is east facing.

Masons sometimes appear to have been economical with space for lettering, ie using abbreviations, and were often unconcerned about bad practice of splitting words.  Both instances occur on this ledger - January abbreviated to janr  and Bartholomew has been split onto two lines.

No date of death is inscribed for Bridget.  This could be an example of another cost saving exercise, inscription ahead of need, ie on the death of Bartholomew, his spouse’s name was inscribed in advance of her demise leaving just the date and age to be inserted at the appropriate time.  It remaining blank in this instance could have been for reasons such as the possibility that she outlived her family or maybe even remarried.

Whilst address of deceased not marked on stone, we know from Church record that Bartholomew was from the townland of Ballinahallia, Moycullen.  The register gives date of death as 24 January 1788.
