This east facing limestone headstone measures 6ft 2½ins(H) x 3ft2ins(W) x 4ins(D). The inscription is Roman lettering and at the top, carved in relief under a sunburst arc, is a IHS Christogram intersected by a Cross and an inverted heart. Placed in four corners of the upper quadrant of the stone are quarter sunbursts, known to imply a light that never fully fades. The mason split words over separate lines and also used superscripting and abbreviations such as yrs  for 'years' and deprd  for 'departed'. The mason also made an error and added an extra 'r' to the word 'erected' when he split it over two lines. There is a lot of lichen on the headstone.
Although not mentioned on the stone, church register shows that Murtagh Geraghty was from the townland of Loughwell but gives date of death as 29 March 1814
