Pray for ye soul of
Peter Clancy di
ed DEC y 9TH 1706
This square topped limestone memorial, now recumbent, was most likely a standing headstone in the past. It faces West, a position usually reserved for clergy, although Peter Clancy doesn't appear to have a clerical reference on his stone. The positioning of the memorial may be as a result of misguided clean up works in the graveyard over the years. The script on this memorial is simply incised Roman lettering and at the top, carved in relief, an IHS christogram intersected by a tau cross. The mason was unconcerned about bad practice of splitting words over separate lines and has also used abbreviations such as ye for the word 'the'.
