The plate opposite, from a sketch by Mr. Westropp, represents a fifteenth-century altar-tomb in the chancel of this abbey; it stands under a three-arched canopy. The inscription is in raised black letter:—

“Hic jacent Oid fili Laurencii [Lorcan] fili Mathi [Mahon] M com Ara et Constina M N Mara uror Ej Q me fieri fecerut.”

On a more recent slab at the back is:—

“THIS MONUMENT WAS ERECTED BY MAHON DALL MAC NEMARA AND REPAIRED BY CAPTN TEIGE MCNEMARA OF RANNÆ A.D. 1714.”

Arms—A lion rampant, 3 spear heads in chief.
Crest—Arm and hand with dagger.
Motto—“Firmitas in cœlum.”
