The date of Michael O Brien's death is not on the headstone , but the reference to him being one of the Manchester Martyrs allows us to know the date of his public hanging. This was as a result of being found guilty of the death of  prison guard Charles Brett, during the attempted release of 2 leaders of the Irish Republican Brotherhood (Fenians) from a horse-drawn police van in Manchester, on 18 September 1867.
