Farmer , Thomas Birrane , his wife , Hanora Fitzgerald and their three surviving children , Thomas 1887, Gerald 1890-1973 & Mary Kate 1892-1981, were living in Park , Galbally , Co. Limerick in the 1911 census. Their other child Johanna (1888-1891) had died of a brain concussion.
Gerald Birrane (1890-1973) , married Johanna Leahy in St. Michaels RC, Limerick City on the 25-04-1923. Gerald had a hardware shop in Emly , which was later purchased by Michael Reidy and is presently owned by John McGrath of McGrath Oil.
In the censuses of 1901 & 1911 , this premises was owned by Cappawhite, Co. Tipperary native, Patrick H McGrath and his Donohill , Co. Tipperary born wife Mary Breen. Mary Breen’s widowed mother , Margaret , nee Lonergan, remarried to John Adams, son of James Adams of Chancellorsland, Emly in 1873.
John Adams died on the 09-06-1907 and his widow Margaret went to live with her daughter Mary and her son-in-law Patrick H McGrath at Main St Emly. The McGrath family were living at Henry St Tipperary in July 1919, when Margaret Adams died.
NB. Robert (Bobby ) Beary Bourke was the husband of Gerald Birrane’s daughter Nora.
