Daniel Mitchell  (1828-1900), son of  James Mitchell  &  Ellen Ryan, married  Eliza Sheehan (1833-1902) in  Knocklong  &  Glenbrohane  parish , Co.  Limerick  on  the  04-3-1862.  

Their  children  were Bridget Mitchell  1863-1931,  James (Jim) 1864- 1921,  Ellen  1865,  Thomas  (Tom)  1867-1924,  William  (Bill) 1868-1943,  Elizabeth  (Lizzie) 1872  &   John  1873-1946.

Ellen Mitchell (1865 - )   married Cornelius Hanly, son of Denis Hanly, of Sologhead Beg, Co. Tipperary on the 20-04-1907 in St. Saviours RC in Limerick City.

Her sister, Elizabeth (Lizzie)  Mitchell  (1872 -  )  married  Timothy Kirby, son of Timothy Kirby of Mohane, Holycross, Co. Limerick on the 20-02-1912 in Emly RC.

NB. James Sarsfield (Jim) Mitchell ( 1864-1921)  was  a  renowned  athlete  and weight thrower.  He stood at over six feet and weighed sixteen stones.  

He was the original Irish Whale and a member of the Irish Invasion athletics team to the USA in 1888, where within four days of arriving there, he had smashed American bests for the hammer.

During his career, he won a total of 82  weight- throwing championship titles, including 17 Irish, 5 English, 20 US outdoor, 6 US indoor, 20 NY Metropolitan and 14 Canadian.

He was past his prime, when, at 40 years old, he won a bronze medal in the 56lbs hammer, representing the USA at the St. Louis Olympic Games in Sep 1904.

A fellow Irishman, John Flanagan (1868-1938), also representing the USA, won the silver medal in the same event. John also won the gold medal in the hammer in 1904, having done so at the 1900 Olympics and won  his third gold medal at the 1908 Olympics. John Flanagan was born in Kilbreedy East, Martinstown, Co. Limerick on the 28-01-1868 and died there on the 03-06-1938.

Jim Mitchell later became a sports writer with the New York Herald. He was born at Bartoose Emly on the 26-01-1864 and he died in NY on the 3rd July 1921. He was interred in the 1st Calvary cemetery, Greenpoint Avenue, Woodside, Queens, New York in Section 56, Plot 3, Grave 3.
