Ballyvistea,  Emly

NB.  An  inscription  was  added  to  this  memorial  after  it  was  photographed  on  the 19-06-2015,  namely  that  of  Michael  Joseph   O’Brien 1922-2014, formerly  of  Ballyvistea,  Emly,  who  died  in the  U.S.A.  on  the  22-01-2014  and  whose  ashes  were  interred  in  this  burial  plot  on  June  19th  2014.

NB.  Michael   O’Brien  died   April  22nd  1914,  aged   78  yrs.  He  was  born  Sept  1835  to  parents  John  O’Brien   &  Anne  Conway.  On  the  12-02-1872,  he  married  Margaret  Batters 1838-1922 ,  daughter  of   Thomas   Batters  of  Longstone,  Cullen. 

Their  children  were  John  1873,  Anne  1874-1969,  Thomas B  1876-1971  and  Michael  07-09-1881.

Anne O' Brien 1874-1969, married  Denis Quinlan 1872-1965, son of Maurice Quinlan 1830-1876 & Mary Waters 1832-1874 of Ballyhone, Emly on the 23rd Feb 1909 in Emly RC. See Quinlan family memorial 0367 in this cemetery.

Thomas B O'Brien 1876-1971 was ordained a priest in 1902 at All Hallows College Dublin. He emigrated to the USA in 1902. Served as Pastor at St Jarlath RC in Chicago, Illinois. He was appointed Monsignor. He died on the 24th April 1971 and was interred at All Saints Catholic cemetery in Des Plaines, Cook County, Illinois.

Michael  O’Brien  (1881-1943)  married  Sarah  O’Dea  (1886-1957),  daughter  of  Thomas  O’Dea   &   Winifred  Baggott   of  Scart  in  Kilteely  RC ,  Co. Limerick  on  the  06-03-1916. Their children included  Margaret O'Brien 1917-2012, Winifred Mary 1918-1918, Anne 1919-1993, Mary 1921-2006, Michael Joseph O'Brien 1922-2014, Winifred Una 1923-2001, Thomas Joseph 1927-1950 & Sean 1928-1983.

Michael  Joseph  O'Brien 1922-2014, aged 91, died in Valencia, Los Angeles, California, USA  on the 22nd Jan 2014.

His brother, Thomas  Joseph  O’Brien  (1927-1950) was  killed  in  action  in  North  Korea   on  the  26-10-1950.  He  was  a  sergeant  in  the  US  army,  90TH  Field  Artillery  Battalion /  25TH  Infantry  Division. 

Their  brother, Sean  O’Brien (1928-1983)  of  Ballyvistea,  was  the  first  person  interred  in  the  new  cemetery  in  Emly  when  he  died  aged  54  on  the  18-06-1983.

Sean O'Brien's wife , Margaret  P ( Peggy ) , nee Schofield , aged 86, a native of Newtown North, Donohill, Co. Tipperary , died on the 06-08-2017 and was interred with her husband in Emly's new cemetery on Wednesday 09-08-2017. She was survived by her immediate family of sons Mike, Tom Joe, Sean, Liam and by daughters Sarah & Cora.

Margaret P ( Peggy ) Schofield ( 1931-2017)  was a daughter of Michael Schofield  & Margaret O'Brien who were married in Cappawhite RC, Co. Tipperary on the 09-11-1921.

Her paternal grandparents were John Schofield & Margaret Collins of Newtown North, Donohill  and her maternal grandparents were William O' Brien & Mary Allis of Leenane West, Donohill.
