Notes:

Christopher Upton, son of William Upton & Margaret Carroll of this memorial, was born in Ballylanders, Co. Limerick on the 15th Jan 1891 and died on the 1st Jul 1973. He, a rate collector, married Johanna Walsh in St Columba RC, Glasnevin, Dublin on the 16th Jan 1924.

Christopher Upton was the last  to die of the nine hunger strikers who survived a ninety four day hunger strike in Cork Jail from the 11th Aug 1920 to the 12th Nov 1920. He was arrested in Ballylanders in July 1920 during a British military round up. Also arrested  around the same time were brothers John Crowley 1891-1942 & Peter Crowley 1900-1963 & Michael O'Reilly 1899-1965. These  were fellow Ballylanders men and were also survivors of that same hunger strike.

Thomas Donovan 1887-1930 of Emly, Co. Tipperary was another. He was interred in Emly's old cemetery on the historic graves website at memorial TS-EMOG-0624
