H.F.W. Gillman was born in Ceylon, 7 June 1867, and educated at Dulwich College and Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He competed for the Indian Civil Service, passed into it in August, 1888, selected the Madras Presidency, and became Collector of Coimbatore. He married, on 9 Jan. 1904 at St. George's Cathedral, Frances Mary, only child of Hon. C.J. Weir of C.S.I. Their Issue included a daughter, Ursula Mary.
