Mary Laura Cross is said to have been the victim of poisoning by her husband, Dr Philip Cross of Shandy Hall, for which he stood trial, was found guilty and hanged at Cork. It is commonly known as the 'Coachford poisoning case' and has been the subject of publication, and more recently, a musical.
Mentioned in the Magourney Burial Register are a number of people with the surname Cross, who would have had family connections with Dr Philip Cross. See the following links:
