The Church of the Sacred Heart was built in the Gothic Revival style in 1883 and was designed by George Ashlin. It is built on the site of a disused Erasmus Smith school on land bequeath by Sir John Carden. It is located in a commanding position facing down Church Avenue, towards the Garda Training College, a former military barracks.
