The old name for Ballymarket is the wonderful townland title of Ballaygavorraga, sadly no longer used. Oral tradition tells us that there was a market there, where, is anyone's guess. Cannon power tells us that an old native in the area told him that they used to sell cabbage plants there! He also notes a placename of 'Cnoc án Phíobaire. = The pipers little hill'
