Mr Minzy was married to a local woman, Maggie O' Reilly.  He was originally from Lubec in Maine USA.  He had been in the US Coastguard during his career.  He was awarded the coastguard's highest honour, the Gold Lifesaving Medal in 1960 for saving the lives of five fishermen in a storm.

Minzy had lived on Sherkin Island from 1995 to his death in 2018.
