NB.  James   &  Kate   Quane   were   principals  in  Emly  N.S.  of   the  boys   and   girls   school ,  respectively.

Kate  Quane ,  nee  Meehan  (1860-1931)  was   born  in   Dalkey ,  Co.  Dublin  in  Oct  1860,  to  parents   John   Meehan   &   Mary   Byrne,   who  were  married   in  Dun  Laoghaire,  Co.  Dublin   on  the  16-05-1858.

Kate  Meehan  married  James   Quane  (1858-1921), baptised  Glenroe parish , Co. Limerick , son  of  farmer  Patrick   Quane  &  Mary Kinkead,  in  Emly  RC   on  the   02-08-1890. 

Their  eldest   child  Sarah  Mary  Quane ,  was  born  at  Porters Road, Dalkey,  Co.  Dublin  in  1891. 

The  rest  of  their   family   were  all  born  in  Emly  and  included   Mary  Quane 1895,  Catherine   1896,  Margaret  Mary  (1898-1923) who died from TB  and  her  half-twin   Bridget  31-01-1898.

NB. Civil  registration  records  the  29-11-1931 as  the  date  of  death  for  Kate  Quane, which  is  a  year  later  than  the  date  inscribed  on  this memorial.
