Tobias Burke ( 1895-2000 ), aged 105, oldest known person of Emly parish as of October 2016. His life spanned three centuries. Son of Tobias Burke / Bourke of Ballinagrana, Emly.
On the 02-06-1918, in Emly RC, Tobias married Ellen Dawson (1893-1990) , daughter of Patrick Dawson (1866-1929) & Margaret Wright (1865-1914) of Lackelly , Knocklong parish , Co. Limerick.
His son, Thomas (Tommy) Burke (1924-2019) of the Bridge, Monemore, Emly died on the 15-06-2019 At the time of his death, Thomas was survived by his wife Brigid, sons John, Gerard, Michael & David, daughters Helen, Breda & Patricia, brother Michael (Mockie) of Emly, sisters Margaret (Peg) UK, Nelly O' Meara of Knockarron, Lily Peters of Aherlow & Breda Finnan of Galbally.
A new headstone & kerbing was erected to Thomas Burke (1924-2019) on Friday 17-07-2020. on the left hand side as one is facing it of memorial 0516 on Wednesday 19-06-2019.
Margaret (Peg) Burke (1922-2019), daughter of Tobias Burke (1895-2000) & Ellen Dawson (1893-1990) died in her 97th year in Solihull, West Midlands, UK and was interred at this memorial on Thursday 24-10-2019.
At the time of her death, she was survived by her siblings Nellie O'Meara (Knockarron), Lily Peters (Rosbeg, Aherlow), Breda Finnan (Galbally) & Michael (Mockie) Burke (Emly). Also at the time of her death, her siblings Paddy, Toby, Ailbe, Tommy & Mary had predeceased her..
Her sister Breda Finnan 1933-2025, died in her 92nd year on the 24th June 2025 and was interred at this memorial on Sat 28th June. Her obituary reads as follows :
It is with deep sadness that we announce the sad passing of Breda Finnan (née) Burke of Snugborough, Galbally, Co. Limerick and formerly of Moanmore, Emly, Co. Tipperary who passed away peacefully on 24th June 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.
Pre-deceased by her loving husband Thomas (Tom), parents Tobias and Ellen, brothers Paddy, Tommy, Toby and Ailbe, sisters Mary and Peg.
Deeply regretted by her brother Mockie, sisters Nelly (O’Meara) and Lily (Peters), nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, neighbours, relatives, and friends.
Reposing at the Chapel of Peace, Fraser & Family Funeral Home, Galbally, Co. Limerick, on Friday, 27th June from 5pm to 7pm.
Reception into St Ailbe's Church, Emly, Co. Tipperary, on Saturday, 28th June for 11:30am Requiem Mass, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Her sister Helen (Nellie) O' Meara ( nee ) Burke 1928-2026, died on Sun 14th Jun 2026 and was interred at memorial 0284 in this cemetery on Wed Jun 17th. Her obituary reads as follows :
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Helen ( Nellie ) O'Meara (née ) Burke of Bohercarron, Duntryleague, Co. Limerick, who passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Willie, daughter Mary Anne, sister in law Josie, sisters Mary, Peg and Breda, and brothers Toby, Ailbe, Paddy and Tommy.
Nellie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children Eamon, Helen (Caherdavin, Limerick), William (Br. Liam, Ennistymon), Margaret (Clerihan), Breda, Noel (Tipperary Town) and John (Craughwell, Co. Galway), daughters-in-law Kathleen and Gráinne, son-in-law Peter, grandchildren Billy, Julie, Ed, Kate, Sean, Eddie, Evelyn, Clodagh, Aoife and Tadhg, great-grandchildren Saidhbh, Molly, Saoirse and Cian, sister Lily Peters (Aherlow), brother Michael Burke (Emly), nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and many friends.
Reposing at the Chapel of Peace, Fraser's Funeral Home, Galbally on Tuesday, 16th June, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Reception on Wednesday, 17th June into the Church of Christ the King, Galbally, for Requiem Mass at 11:30am, followed by burial afterwards in Emly cemetery, Co. Tipperary.
