Abina   ( Abby )   Heelan’s   age  was  recorded   as  86  at  the  time  of  her  death  in  St. Vincent’s  Hospital  in  Tipperary  Town.

Both  the  1901  &  1911 censuses  for  Clashdrumsmith ,  Emly ,  record   her  birthplace  as  Co.  Kerry.   Her  maiden   name  was  Casey.

Both  Abina  and  her  husband   John  Heelan   were  living  at  Caherbarnagh ,  Drishane , when  their  son  Patrick  Heelan  was  born  on  the  19-04-1897.  The birth  was  registered  in  Millstreet,  Co. Cork    registrars  district.

They  were  living  at  Clashdrumsmith ,  Emly ,  when  their  son  Michael  Heelan  was  born  on the  28-03-1901.

Michael   Heelan  ( 1901 –  1962)  married   Josephine   Murphy   (  1903 – 1986 ),  daughter  of  Patrick  Murphy   &   Ellen   Gleeson   of   Cromhill ,  Kilteely ,  Co.  Limerick  on  the  06-01-1929  in  Kilteely   RC.

Michael   Heelan’s   brother ,  James  Heelan ,  married  Mary  Foley ,  daughter   of   William  Foley  &  Ellen  Hogan  of  Lodge,  Hospital ,  Co. Limerick  on  the  12-04-1925  in  Hospital  RC. 

Thomas  ( Tommy )  Heelan  1945-2022, son  of  Michael  Heelan  1901-1962  &  Josephine  Murphy  1903-1986  died  on  the  18th  Dec  2022.  His  obituary  reads  as  follows :

Tommy Heelan, of Ballyhone, Emly, Co. Tipperary died on December 18th 2022. Formerly of Dan O’ Connor Farm Feeds of Limerick. Predeceased by his brother Jack, sisters  Eileen, Mary & Pauline. Deeply regretted by his loving wife Joan (nee)  Nugent , son  Kieran, daughter Sandra  & their  partners Iwona & Michael, brother Michael  (Mickey),  brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren Nathan, Mary-Anne, Luke & Cillian, nephews, nieces relatives neighbours & friends.

Reposing at his residence at Ballyhone on Wednesday evening Dec 21st from 3.30pm to 6pm. His funeral cortège will arrive at Emly Church on Thursday morning Dec 22nd at 11.15am for 11.30am Mass followed by cremation at Shannon Crematorium,  Co. Clare at 2pm. Tommy's ashes were interred in Emly's new cemetery.

Tommy Heelan's brother Michael ( Mickey) Heelan 1943-2024 died on the 28th Nov 2024 and was interred at this memorial on Tues 3rd Dec 2024. His obituary reads as follows :

The death has occurred of Michael (Mickey) Heelan of The Marsh, Emly, Co.Tipperary who passed away on November 28th 2024 Predeceased by his parents Michael and Josephine, brothers Jack and Tommy, sisters Eileen, Pauline and Mary, nephews Jason and John and grand nephew Sean

 Beloved husband and best friend of Mary, nee Nugent. Sadly missed by his loving wife, brothers in-law, sisters in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

 Lying in repose in The Chapel of Peace, Fraser's Funeral Home, Galbally Co Limerick on Monday December 2nd 2024 from 5 to 7pm. Reception on Tuesday December 3rd 2024 into St Ailbe's Church Emly Co Tipperary for Requiem Mass at 11.30am after which he will be laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.
