Notes:

Drumcomogue,  Emly.

The Mary & Margaret who had the headstone erected are probably the  Mary Lavery & Mary Hourigan who are commemorated on the plaque on the ground at the base of the headstone.

See memorial  0282.

NB. A small headstone , existed between this memorial and the adjacent memorial 0282, when the book The Gravestones Inscriptions of Emly was documented in 1993 and must have been moved when this survey was undertaken in 2015/16. It has since been positioned lying up against a small headstone that can be seen in the background of this memorial 0281. The inscription reads as follows :

Erected by Matthew Dempsey of Monemore, in memory of his father Dan Dempsey who departed this life January 30, 1824, aged 78 years. May he rest in peace.

Griffiths Valuation for Monemore, Emly records Jeremiah Dempsey as a tenant of Heffernan Cosidine of Derk from whom he was renting just over 22 acres.  Jeremiah, in turn had sublet a house and land of just over one acre to a Michael Dempsey and also a house and garden to a John Lonergan.
