Patrick Nihill (1873-1945) son of Thomas Nihill & Joanna Ryan who were married in Sologhead RC, Co. Tipperary on the 21-02-1871. His paternal grandfather was Timothy Nihill and his maternal grandfather was Malachy Ryan.
Patrick Nihill (1873-1945) was firstly married on the 05-05-1894 in Cullen RC, Co. Tipperary to Mary Whelan, daughter of Michael Whelan. Mary's age at the time of marriage was recorded as 38 and they had no family.
Patrick Nihill married for the second time to Norah Ryan, daughter of Michael Ryan, in Lattin RC, Co. Tipperary on the 12-09-1918.
Children born to them included Thomas Nihill (1919-1999), Michael Patrick (1920-1983), Mary 1921, Anne 1923, Catherine (1924-1924), Nora 1925 -1955, Edmond (Ned) 1926-1987, Elizabeth (Betty) 1927-2017 & Catherine 1929.
Michael Patrick Nihill (1920-1983) emigrated to New York in June 1948 and married Katherine McGloin (1928-2009) there in 1954. Their children included Patrick M Nihill (1956-2012), Edward J (1956-2013) & Kathleen 1964.
Two sisters of Michael Patrick Nihill (1920-1983), namely Elizabeth (Betty) Nihill (1927-2017) and her sister Catherine emigrated to NY in February 1948.
Elizabet (Betty) Nihill (1927-2017) married William J Lynch (1925-1989) in New York in 1949. Their children included Patricia Lynch (1950-2014), William & Bridget'
Extracts from the obituary of Betty Lynch ,nee Nihill (1927-2017) are as follows :
Elizabeth Lynch, a native of Ireland and proud American citizen, died following a long illness on April 24, 2017 at Middletown Park Manor. She was 89.
She was the daughter of the late Nora Ryan and Patrick Nihill. She was born on November 28, 1927. She married her soul mate, William Lynch in 1949. Together they had 3 children: Patricia, William and Bridget. She was an aide to the Grand Marshall for the NYC St. Patrick's Day Parade. She was Woman of the Year for Rockland County in 1992. She was also an active member of St Joan of Arc church Sloatsburg choir and annual St. Patrick's party.
She is survived by her son, William Lynch and his wife Vicki, and daughter, Bridget Sullivan and her husband Neil, son-in-law Patrick McEnerney; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Patricia McEnerney.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday, May 1, 2017 at St. Joseph's Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, New York 10940. Burial will follow in the family plot in Ascension Cemetery in Airmont, New York.
Mary Nihill, nee Ryan , wife of the late Edmond (Ned) Nihill (1926-1987) died in Longstone, Cullen, Co. Tipperary on the 06-12-2020 and was interred at this memorial on Tuesday 08-12-2020. At the time of her death, Mary was survived by her immediate family of sons Pat , John & Michael and by daughter Nora.
