Margaret  Purcell, nee O’Brien, died 16-03-1907. Age recorded at death was 80..

John Purcell of Monemore, Emly, married Margaret O’Brien of Duntryleague, in Galbally RC, Co. Limerick on the 24-02-1852.  Family included Anne  Purcell (1853-1936), Philip (1855-1933), William (1857-1941), Denis (1861-1939)  & John (1866-1951)

Anne Purcell (1853-1936), daughter of John Purcell & Margaret O’Brien, married Richard Hourigan of Ballynadruckilly, Lattin, Co. Tipperary, in Emly RC on the 26-02-1884. Their children included Edmond Hourigan 1885-1886, Mary 1886,  Margaret 1887, Anne 1889, Edmond 1890 & Bridget 1893.

Philip Purcell (1855-1933), late of Mount Bruis, Co. Tipperary, son of John Purcell & Margaret O’Brien, married Bridget Leahy  (1866-1947), daughter of Thomas Leahy & Bridget McGrath of the Red Bog, Martinstown, Co. Limerick, in Templemore RC, Co. Tipperary on the 19-02-1898.

Children born to Philip Purcell (1855-1953)  & Bridget Leahy (1866-1947) were  John Purcell (1900-1983), Margaret 1901, Bridget 1902, Anne (1903-1903), Anna ( 1905-1941) and Thomas Joseph (1908-1989).

William  Purcell (1857-1941) was ordained a priest in Rome in 1883, was PP of Kilcommon, Co. Tipperary 1911-1922 and then PP and Canon in Murroe, Co. Limerick.

His brother, Denis Purcell (1861-1939) died unmarried. 

John Purcell (1866-1951), son of John Purcell & Margaret O’ Brien of Monemore, Emly, married Mary Merrigan (1881-1948), daughter of William Merrigan & Johanna Quirke of Ballinahow, Bruis, in Templemore RC on the 10-02-1909. Mary Merrigan’s address was recorded as Ballinleenty, Clonpet, Co. Tipperary at the time of her marriage.

Children born to John Purcell (1866-1951) & Mary Merrigan (1881-1948)  were John Purcell (1909-1989),  William (Willie) 1911-1963, Philip 1913-1995, Margaret Mary 1914, Johana (Josephine) 1915-1991 & James 1919-2008.

John Purcell (1909-1989) married Kathleen Hogan 1912-1985. See adjacent memorial 0176 for details..

William (Willie) Purcell (1911-1963) married  Ellen (Nellie) Buckley (1914-2004), daughter of John Buckley & Kate O'Dwyer of Annakisha, Kilavullen, Co. Cork on the 3rd Aug 1949 in Annakisha RC. Willie Purcell died on the 21st Feb 1963 and was interred at this memorial and his widow  Nellie, nee Buckley died on the 3rd May 2004 and was interred in Emly's new cemetery. Their  youngest son  James Noel Purcell (1954-2021) of Murraghboro, Coolbaun, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary  died  on the 11th Jul 2021 in Milford Hospice, Limerick and was interred in Kilbarron's old cemetery, Coolbaun on Tuesday 13th Jul 2021. At the time of his death, he was survived by his immediate family of his wife Catherine & brothers William Purcell (Dublin) & John (Emly).

Philip  Purcell (1913-1995) was ordained a priest in 1938 and served in Middlesborough &  Cottingham, Yorks, UK .

Johanna (Josephine)  Purcell (1915-1991)  married Patrick Leahy (1912-1983) of Balline House, Bulgaden, Co. Limerick in Emly RC on the 26th Jan 1944.

James Purcell (1919-2008), like his brother  Philip, was also ordained a priest.
