John Crowe Daly was born Aug 6th 1875 in Gortvunatrime, Emly, Co. Tipperary to parents Richard Daly 1835-1916 & Ellen Crowe 1838-1893. He married Alice Hayes 1880-1958, daughter of John Hayes & Alice Morrissey of Doon, Co. Limerick on the 28th Jun 1909 in Limerick Cathedral.  He was proprietor of Dalys Hotel in Emly which later became English’s butchers shop.

Children born to them were as follows ;

Richard Daly 1910-1910. Died at 10 days old of meningitis.

John Peter  ( Jack ) 1912-1982.

Richard Aloysius  ( Dick )  1914-2001.  A doctor. Interred in Emly’s  new cemetery.

Eleanor  1916-2002.

Teresa  Mary  1917-1994

Thomas  Mary  1919-1958.  Of  Bartoose House, Emly. He married Janet Mary Drennan 1922-2017, daughter of Edward Drennan 1884-1953 & Catherine Agnes Byrne 1893-1980 in Gowran RC, Co. Kilkenny on Sep 7th 1949.

Their  daughter, Alice Catherine Daly 1950-1951, died of meningitis. Their  son Richard Daly retired as Principal of Athy College, Co. Kildare in 2025 after 32 years service. He was also an Athy Urban District Councillor from 2004-2014 and was elected as a Kildare County Councillor for Athy in 2009.  

Janet  Daly remarried to widower  Pa Ryan 1914-1993 on Aug 17th 1968. She died in Athy, Co. Kildare on Jan 21st 2017. Her obituary reads as follows :

The death has occurred of Janet Ryan ,formerly Daly, (née) Drennan of Whitecastle Lawns, Athy, Co. Kildare. Deeply regretted by her loving family and friends.

Reposing at her son Richard Daly's residence, Paudeenourstown, Athy , Sunday, 22nd Jan from 2pm. Removal on Monday morning at 11.30am to arrive at St. Michael's Parish Church, Athy for Requiem Mass at 12 noon. Burial afterwards in St. Michael's New Cemetery, Athy.

Dr.Richard ( Dick ) Daly 1914 -2001 was interred in Emly's new cemetery. The inscription reads as follows :

 Helena  ( EllenCorbett was born at 25 Hollybrook Rd, Clontarf, Dulin to parents James  Joseph Corbett, a grocer and Mary Frances Dargan, a native of Cashel, Co. Tipperary
