The Wally/Walley family were blacksmiths. The 1911 Census for Emly village records Michael Walley and his son Charles Walley as blacksmiths. Paddy Hogan was the last person to operate as a blacksmith in what was once Walley’s forge.

The death of Charles Walley of Emly, a blacksmith, recorded at this memorial was on the 11th Feb 1864. Informant was his wife Ellen  Lundrigan / Lonergan who gave his age as being 76 years at the time of death.

The 1911 census for Emly village, Co. Tipperary recorded that Michael Walley, a blacksmith & his wife Ellen Brien / Breen were married for 45 years and that six of their children were living out of a total of eleven that were born to them. Their children  included  Charles Walley Nov 1863, Ellen 1864, Johanna 1866, William 1867-1870,  Charles 1869, Bridget 1870-1944, Johanna 1870-1878, Edmond 1873. William 1875-1957, Thomas 1877-1878 & Mary 1878.

Michael  Walley, a blacksmith, son of Charles Walley & Ellen Lundrigan / Lonergan  died in Emly on the 20th Sept 1912. Informant was his son Charles (1869-1928) who gave his age as being 78 years at the time of death.

Charles Walley (1869-1928) , a blacksmith & bachelor died in Emly on the 30th Nov 1928. Informant was his brother William Walley (1875-1957), who recorded his own address as being, Clonakilty, Co. Cork. Wiiliam  was a railway station master in Clonakilty at the time and later at Skibbereen where he retired in 1942.

William Walley (1875-1957) married  Mary Ellen O'Connell (1881-1961) daughter of shopkeeper Thomas O'Connell & Bridget Crowley of Skibbereen, Co. Cork on the 16th Oct 1902 in Skibbereen RC.. Their children included Michael Thomas Walley 1903 (married Sheila Brosnan in Clonakilty RC 10th Apr 1928) Thomas 1905, William 1906-1974, Tim (married May Duggan), Denis 1912, Edward 1914-1915, Charles 1916-2001, John 1919-1954, Patricia J 1921 & Frank 1925-1993.

The obituary of Mary Walley, daughter of Tim Walley & May Duggan reads as follows :

Walley Clonakilty, on January 16th 2016 peacefully in the loving care of the matron and staff of Mount Carmel Hospital, Clonakilty. Mary Walley  of “Sunnyside”, Park Road, daughter of the late Tim and  May Walley. Sadly missed by her loving brother Paddy, sister-in-law Brigitte, nephews Sebastian and Conor, nieces Therese and Lisa, relatives and friends. Interred in St Mary's cemetery in Clonakilty.

Mary Walley (1878- ), daughter of Michael Walley & Ellen Brien / Breen married  George Hogan (1878-1945) of Kylenagoneeny, Oola, Co. Limerick in Emly RC on the 22nd Nov 1910. Children born to them included Edmond Anthony Hogan 1912, Ellen 1913 & Catherine Mary  1915. See memorial  0138.

Edmond Walley (1873 -  ) son of  Michael Walley & Ellen Brien / Breen, was a blacksmith & shopkeeper in Cullen village, Co. Tipperary in the 1911 census.  He married  Johanna Power , daughter of Patrick Power of Abington, Co. Limerick  in Murroe RC on the 8th Jun 1909. Children born to them in Cullen included Michael Joseph Walley  1911 & Patrick Joseph  1913.
