This tablet erected
in grateful and affectionate remembrance of
The Revd. Hyacinth D'Arcy J.P.
Rector of this parish Canon of St. Patrick's
and superintendent of the Irish Church Mission
Who on Sept. 8 1874 at the age of 68 years
departed this life
"To be with Christ which is far better."
As the representative of an ancient family
Who had taken a lead in Connemara
76 landlords and public benefactors
Hyacinth D'Arcy
Sustained personal loss with a nobility of sentiment
Which called forth the admiration and respect
of all who knew him.
And spent his life in laboouring for the
Real welfare, both temporal and spitiual,
of the people of Connemara.
Through his exertions and influence
the various churches and schools which adorn this district
Were called into existence.
and both missionary and pastoral work flourished
Under his guidance.
He was respected as a magistrate, beloved as a pastor,
and trusted as a friend.
The thousands who were taught the truth
Through his instrumentality
Form the most enduring monument to his memory.

and much people were added to the Lord."
