Reverend Richard was ordained in 1840 and from 1840-1856 he was curate of Killowen near Bandon.  In 1856 he was at Island, Ross and was then appointed rector of Templetrine where he stayed until he became rector of Nohoval.  He married Sarah in 1843, the daughter of Abraham Lane by his wife Elizabeth.

Richard and Sarah had:

Elizabeth Thomasina who was baptised in Killowen in 1844.  She became a popular author "L.T. Meade"

Thomas Gerard de Courcey Meade was baptised in Killowen in 1846.  He became rector of Killarney where he died in 1879.  He married Miss Neligan, a step sister of Sir John Chute Neligan, recorder of Cork and had a son and three daughters.
