Billy  born in 1895, and at age of 17 years , he joined the British Army. He went to France and fought in World War 1, was injured and presumed dead as his family had no communication from him. The story is told he returned one May morning in 1920,after being sent to England to recover from his injuries.

He joined the War of Independence and was imprisoned in Ballykinder Camp for two years.

He was a tall gentleman and in later years road a bicycle to do his shopping every Saturday. He is fondly remembered by the children of The Pigeons as he use to buy them a big bags of sweets. R.I.P.
