Community Historian, Brendan Matthews. “Former Parishioners”. Photo on the left, taken in November 1938 depicts a very young Pat Howard on the morning of his wedding; he being just 3-months shy of his 33rd birthday, while the photo on the right captures the renowned Pat in his twilight years. Pat was born on Tuesday, February 13th 1906 in the townland of Mooretown, Ardcath. His parents being Richard Howard, a local farmer and Julia née Plunkett. His Godparents were Mary Hand and James Kelly. Pat married Anne Collier of Legganhall, Bellewstown on November 25th in 1938 at St. Patrick`s Church in Stamullen Village; the Best man and Bridesmaid being John McKeown and Theresa Howard. Pat was a familiar face around the Holiday Camp of Butlins Mosney where he had worked for many a year. Pat`s parents, Richard & Julia had married on October 2nd 1895 in Ardcath and, at the time of Richard & Julia`s marriage, Richard was recorded as being a Farmer and resident at Cloghan Ardcath, while Julia was recorded as being that of a Merchant & Shopkeeper and she was resident at Hawkinstown near Cushinstown. Julia`s father, Patrick Plunkett, who was deceased at the time of his daughter`s marriage to Richard Howard, was also formerly a Merchant and Shopkeeper. The gentle & quiet Pat Howard passed away on Sunday January 8th back in 1995 just a month short of his 89th birthday and was laid to Rest in Ardcath Graveyard on January 11th 1995. Researched & written by Community Historian, Brendan Matthews, with grateful thanks and acknowledgement to Kay Howard for the copies of the photographs.
